The Mad Fish Dive Centre is located on the world renowned Great Astrolabe Barrier Reef and caters for all levels of divers from beginners to experienced. The diving centre is based on Matava Resort on Kadavu Island and is operated by a team of professionals who will safely and comfortably assist you in exploring the fourth largest barrier reef in the world.
If you are after the ultimate diving adventure where you can spend days underwater in between bouts of de-stressing and detoxing on land, then look no further than premier dive resort Matava. Matava is a genuine eco-adventure-hideaway designed to cause minimal impact on the environment and to promote conservation awareness with the local community and visitors.
Offering 10 traditional thatched bures in the rainforest with ocean views, the eco resort can accommodate up to 22 guests and is ideal for those who are looking for a Fijian experience off the beaten track. Forty minutes from the resort is Matava’s signature dive site, Manta Reef. The reef is a feeding station but occasionally mantas stop for a clean above the reef. They have a resident population as well as occasional pelagic manta visits.
The top of the reef is around 15m and the reef itself is covered in healthy hard and soft corals. Divers can explore a fun swim-through, large patches of clown fish and pristine hard corals and fans. Expect to see giant mantas with up to 20ft wingspans as well as schooling fusiliers, surgeon fish, Indian Mackerel, Narrow barred mackerel, Dogtooth tuna as well as occasional sightings of pelagic species such as Pacific Sailfish and the occasional Great Hammerhead Shark.
Manta Reef is visited at least once a week and guests are encouraged to visit. Divers and snorkelers’ head out after breakfast and do two dives on the reef with a one hour surface interval spent anchored up nearby in calm waters inside the barrier reef. The boat then returns to the Resort for lunch.
The dive facility boats a storage area, gear drying racks, separate diver training room, large freshwater tanks for dive gear and camera soak tanks, brand new compressors and scuba cylinders. Diving gear can also be hired prior to arrival. For more information, please call +679 603 0685 or visit www.scuba-diving-fiji.com.
