Being ‘out in the islands’ does not mean ‘going without’ and White Grass Ocean Resort is here to prove it. Located on Tanna Island, at White Grass you can sit down to a lovely meal with stunning views of the ocean ahead and feel that you really are on a holiday, a million miles away. The blackboard menu changes daily, making the most of the produce available. All vegetables and fruit are from the local market, grown with nothing else but rich volcanic soil.
There is fresh fish all year around, with tuna, wahoo, and poulet being caught locally, and menu choices such as ‘Tusker beer battered Fish ‘n’ Chips with homemade coleslaw, tartar sauce and kumala wedges’ and many more. There is fresh lobster all year round and in fact, you can have lobster for lunch if you wish. How about an ‘Open-faced lobster sandwich with citrus dill aioli’, ‘Seafood wontons of lobster, fish and prawns with chili, soy and lime sauce’ and yes, ‘Whole Tanna Rock Lobster’. Other favourite choices are ‘Chicken and nangai nut curry with turmeric rice’, and ‘Tanna coffee Panna Cotta with dark chocolate ganache and cream’. The bread is baked fresh daily on a wood fire by local bakers and there is pizza for lunch daily.
Signature dish: Whole Tanna Rock Lobster with garlic butter or Mornay sauce, steamed coconut rice and market vegetables.
Great for: Relaxed dinner after an amazing Volcano and Tanna Highland Safari.
Best Seller: Pan Seared Yellowfin Tuna with lemon caper sauce, snake beans and Kumala puree.
So very special: The sunsets.
