Winner of Trip Advisor Travelers’ Choice 2014 South Pacific Awards for Most Romantic Resort and Luxury Resort, finalist in the Conde Nast 2013 Global Awards for Most Excellent Romantic Hideaway and Most Excellent Small Resort and finalists in the Luxury Travel 2013 and 2014 Gold List Awards for Best Overseas Boutique property, there is no doubt, the Havannah, is, ah, so very special.
Located in one of the most beautiful bays in Vanuatu, the Havannah Resort is pure class. The 18-villa luxury boutique resort sits in a stunning location in complete harmony with its surroundings. No monstrous concrete structures and high-rise, high-density buildings here. Looking across from the water, you would hardly know it is there.
Making the most of what a tropical island is all about, the Havannah experience starts as you wander down the lovely driveway. The gorgeous gardens have been well thought-out and designed to provide a serene atmosphere, softly blending the grounds, buildings and the ocean beyond.
Going through the tall, wide doors and passing the elegant lobby, you enter ‘The Point’ restaurant with its super-high natangora roof, which, besides being an architectural masterpiece, is also a work of art. Look up and marvel at the cavernous dimensions of its pitch or look across the vast expanse of the restaurant and bar, to the 270 degree views over the turquoise waters of Havannah Harbour.
The Point Restaurant is one of Havannah’s assets and as everything else, its focus is on quality and luxury, offering an outstanding dining experience in magnificent surroundings.
The Havannah cares, and with a team of 65 staff, you can be sure that you will be well looked-after. It is managed by industry veterans Frederick and Victoria Maclean. Frederick has opened many large and luxury properties during his 30 year career, including a 545 room hotel in Shanghai and a myriad of luxury properties in exotic locations.
The 18 villas cater for the medium to high budget and are all elegantly appointed, complete with the small details that turn ‘fine’ into exceptional. The five Waterfront Villas, located by the ocean with direct access to the beach, come with their own plunge pool and private deck while the Lagoon Front Villas sit along the edge of the magnificent lagoon pool. Modern with a tropical twist, there is extensive use of local hard woods, spacious bathrooms, and of course, all mods-cons; air con, ceiling fans, mini bar, bath, ipod docks, TV and DVD players.
The latest addition to the Havannah is two Deluxe Waterfront Villas. Built in 2014, the super-spacious villas each have their very own 4×7 metre infinity pool, a large outdoor deck and dining pavilion with BBQ facilities where you can have your meal cooked by one of Havannah chefs, a very private large outdoor bath, a glorious suspended day bed and a sun deck with its own beach access.
The villas are a split-level design to enjoy the ocean views no matter where you are, with French sliding doors opening the front of the villas completely onto the ocean.
It is the little details that elevate the Havannah from earthly to divine. Local art populates the walls with works by renowned artists Sophie de Garam and Anne Smith; the bathrooms are stocked with all organic products from Vanuatu’s own Volcanic Earth; candles and essential oil burners are strategically positioned around the bath tub. Romantic? Absolutely.
Clearly, the Havannah has not forgotten anything and since the Deluxe Waterfront villas opened in July last year, their occupancy has been a whopping 96%.
The activities at the Havannah are just as amazing. Outstanding snorkeling and diving, safe swimming and kayaking, great fishing or a day of sailing are all at your finger tips in the crystal-clear, azure waters of the bay. And for a little pampering, don’t forget that luscious spa treatment including hot stone massage, Dead Sea mud body wrap and Arom’essence signature facials. The only problem with staying at the Havannah is that eventually, you may have to leave.
The Havannah also caters for weddings and special events. Standard rates are AU$500 per night for a Garden Villa, AU$620 for Lagoon Pool Villa, AU$760 per night for a Waterfront Villa and AU$1180 for a Deluxe Waterfront Villa per night.
